Christmas at Longwood Gardens

I took a stroll through the conservatory at Longwood Gardens earlier this week.  They always do a fabulous display.  This year is no exception.

These fruited glass trimmings are hand-blown by Cohn-Stone Studios in California and are about 12″ tall.  Metal artists constructed a frame within the tree to hold each pear in place.

Wondering what the design is made from?

Apples!  18,540 Granny Smith and Red Ronne apples are floating in four inches of water, maintained by a structure made of plywood, Plexiglas, and metal.  At the end of the season, the apples will be donated to a farm for cattle feed.
